Specialized Units/Equipment:
Tri-States Hose Company No. 6, the youngest company in the department, was organized at Drake's Hotel in Tri-States on Sept. 5, 1890, with 27 members and Irving Jones as President and Foreman. Its first charter was issued in October 1890 and a hose house was erected (date???). It is still housed today in the same historic East Main Street building in which it was originally located. This is the only company to have been continuously located in the same quarters since its inception.
The company’s first hose cart was a discarded one from Fowler 3, but it was later provided with a fine hose carriage of which members were justly proud.
During World War I, more than half of its members were called into the military service of the United States. In fact during World War I and World War II many members from the seven companies of the fire department rendered valiant service for the nation, and during their absence large service flags were displayed in all company truck houses.
Two members of the company — Albert Decker and Douglas Moore — served in the capacity of department officers.
Hose 6 is well-known throughout the area for its field day team, which won the title of Orange County Pumping Champions at the Orange County Fair firemen's competition in 1977.
